Basement Remodeling Contractors in Philadelphia
A finished basement is the cheapest square footage you'll ever add to your home. But only if it stays dry. APS Masonry remodels basements across Philadelphia, Bucks County, and Montgomery County, and because we're a masonry and foundation crew first, we handle the water and the structure before we frame a single wall. That's the difference between a basement that stays finished and one that buckles the drywall after the first wet spring. Licensed and insured since 2017 (PA #139378).

We Fix the Water Before We Finish
Most basement remodels fail for one reason: someone framed over a moisture problem. Philadelphia's older homes sit on stone and early concrete foundations that were never waterproofed, and hydrostatic pressure pushes water through the walls and floor. Finish over that and you're sealing mold and rot inside your new walls.
We start underground. We check the foundation, fix cracks, address drainage, and get the basement dry, then we frame. If the foundation needs work, we handle that too, see foundation repair. It's slower up front and it's the only way a finished basement lasts.
What a Basement Remodel Adds
A finished basement is the highest-return square footage in most Philadelphia homes because the shell already exists, no foundation, no roof, no addition. You get a family room, a home office, a guest suite, or a rental unit for a fraction of what an addition costs, and it adds real resale value. Done right, it's the most house you'll get for the money.

Finished Basement in a Historic Chestnut Hill Home
Customer Testimonial
"Three years ago we decided to remodel the basement in our 100 year old Chestnut Hill home. We wanted an entertainment space where we could host family and friends with ease. We realized that we would need to dig down to increase the head room to a comfortable height.
After interviewing several general contractors, we realized what we really needed was a masonry company who would be comfortable with the size and scope of the job.
Looking at reviews online, it was clear that APS Masonry had the highest number of 5 star rave reviews. Once we met Alec it was clear why. Alec understood our vision for the space and was enthusiastic about the plan. Alec helped us with refining and enhancing all of the elements of the space. Alec’s estimate was also very fair in comparison with the many other estimates we received. And, he is truly a pleasure to work with!"
5 Stars for Alec and APS!
"Once the work started and we met the APS guys, we knew we hired the right company for the job. Under foreman Charlie’s guide, the men tackled every challenge skillfully. They had ideas and answers for every aspect of the build. Charlie and the team are also creative and skilled in all facets of carpentry. We presented many unique ideas to them and they were excited to accomplish every one of them. The job took over six months and Alec and the team were a pleasure to have in our home every day. We also were very pleased with all of the sub-contractors Alec recommended.
Along the way, Alec and APS Masonry also installed a laundry center on our second floor, as well as completed some outdoor masonry stone work. With Alec and APS Masonry, we now have the basement entertaining space we always dreamed of. While the basement looks great, we also have peace of mind that the work was done to the highest standards and will last us many years to come. We highly recommend and will continue to hire APS Masonry for all of our home needs."

Basement Remodeling FAQs
-
Do I need to waterproof before finishing my basement?
In almost every Philadelphia home, yes. Finishing over a damp basement traps moisture inside your new walls and leads to mold and rot. We get the basement dry and the foundation sound first, then finish, so the remodel actually lasts.
-
How much does a basement remodel cost in Philadelphia?
It depends on the size, whether it needs waterproofing or foundation work, and how finished you want it, a simple family room is very different from a full suite with a bathroom. We look at your basement and give you a written estimate that matches the real scope.
-
Can you add a bathroom or bedroom in the basement?
Yes. We add basement bathrooms, wet bars, and bedrooms. A basement bedroom needs a proper egress window to be legal, and we handle that and the permits.
-
Do I need a permit to finish my basement?
Yes, finished basements need permits and inspections to count as legal living space. We pull the permits and manage the inspections so it's done by the book.
-
My basement gets damp or musty, can it still be finished?
Yes, once we fix the cause. That musty smell is moisture, and we find where it's coming in and address it before we frame. Finishing without fixing it just hides the problem.
-
How long does a basement remodel take?
A straightforward finish runs a few weeks; adding waterproofing, a bathroom, or foundation work extends it. We give you a timeline with the estimate.
